How to Make Flash Based Movies for the Web
2008.07.23 11:51:52

I am a big fan of posting photos for family and friends to view.  I have been using Gallery for quite some time.  It offers a nice presentation interface as well as the ability to send to online photo printing sites.  However, I found that many people had trouble logging in, or did not take the time to view all the photos.

I also started using Google's Picassa for photo management, and found there is an option to make a movie of selected photos.  What a neat idea!  I think I have seen this feature in DVD burning software, but it is more tailored for a DVD disk.

No matter how you make your movie of photos, there is very little chance that it can be output to flash format- by any aplication, unless you want to splurge a small fortune on Adobe's Shockwave software.  So we are stuck with .avi's or .mpeg's.  Sure they are nice, but will they play on all operating systems, and what if Grandma does not know what Media Player is, and worse yet, media player freezes up when it is downloading a large file, with no feedback.  I wanted something that showed the download was in process, and seamlessly plays in any web browser, much like YouTube.  See how to do it by clicking read more below....

Firefox 3- Better or Worse?
2008.07.08 11:42:06
So by now, you may have heard that Firefox 3 is out.  It has been posted all over the place, including trying to capture (and they did)  a world record of number of downloads in one day.  I admit, I did download on that day to help the record.  But, I am not convinced all the improvements are actually such.  From my experience so far, I experience delays when I click on links, and the hard drive seems to crunch.  This never happened in FF 2.  I have not had time to debug it, or even search around for similar experiences, but I am not too impressed so far.
