Systems Consultant (Self Employed)

  • Maintain client's business networks and systems. Windows 2003 server based systems, maintain Windows XP and Windows 2000 desktops, provide end-user technical support. Also responsible for Ethernet switch and router equipment.  Past projects included upgrading from NT4 based networks, upgrading desktops, configuring remote access and VPN.  Ongoing maintenance includes Windows updates, user desktop support, and backups via Backup Exec
 

2003 - Present

Information Technologies Manager

  • Responsible for the security, integrity, operation, and maintenance of the entire company IT infrastructure (19 Linux, 7 Windows, 4 Netware servers, 12 switches/hubs/routers/access points, and approximately 75 end points)
  • Daily and Monthly Backups (Backup Exec 11, robotic auto-loader), restores as needed
  • Develop, test, and maintain disaster recovery procedures
  • Develop and maintain both end user and IT operations documentation
  • Patch Windows and Linux systems as needed
  • Maintain VPN links (site to site IPSSEC and PPTP)

  • Assisted the IT department in deploying new software packages, maintenance and install of workstations and servers, and documentation of the systems
  • Tested and migrated two Netware 4.11, and one Windows 2000 server to new hardware
  • Assisted with testing and development of systems documentation project (php/mysql/perl).

Recent Projects

  • Planned and executed GroupWise upgrade- comprised of many different modules, with legacy compatibility problems.  Also secured the web access module with SSL
  • Planned and executed a back-end Linux server move to new fault-tolerant hardware.  Followed up on and fixed post-move problems.
  • Upgraded Backup Exec from version 9.1 to 10
  • Installed an auto-loader for backups (Exabyte VXA-2)
  • Installed, configured, and tested a MailMan list server
  • Development and maintenance of several websites using multiple tools and technologies- some customization such as a random image on the main page each time it is visited
  • Evaluation and installation of portals, CMS, and e-commerce– PhpBB, Mambo, ZenCart.  Require setting up an area on a Linux web server and creating a new MySql database
  • Deployed Microsoft’s Windows Server Update Service (WSUS)
